In Chapter 10 of Their Eyes Were Watching God, we are introduced to the charismatic character named Tea Cake. Based off the the three types of guys we discussed in class, 1) "Looks good on paper" guy, 2) "Looks good" guy, and 3) The REAL guy, please provide your own example (like my "Friends" example) and relate your answer to each type of guy/ Janie and her relationship with Logan, Jody, and Tea Cake. Review: my example was Rachel's relationship with Barry, Paolo and Ross. In my opinion, Barry was the "Looks good on paper guy" and resembled Logan the most. Paolo was the "Looks good" guy and resembled Jody the most. Lastly, Ross was the "real" guy and resembled Tea Cake the most. Your example can be from another book, TV show, or movie, just BE CREATIVE!! You may also include pictures/ video clips to further illustrate your point if you desire!
One Tree Hill: Peyton Sawyer
ReplyDeleteBoy that looks good on paper-
During season 1 Peyton's boyfriend was Nathan Scott. Nathan is one of those guys who look really good on paper. He is good looking, popular, he comes from a wealthy family, and he is the star of the basketball team. However, the relationship between Peyton and Nathan was very wrong and in some ways abusive, Nathan put Peyton down a lot. Neither half of the relationship really benefited from each other. Nathan resembles Logan.

Boy that looks good-
After breaking up with Nathan, Peyton eventually starts a relationship with a guy named Jake. Jake is also good looking but I don't think that is what attracts Peyton most to Jake. Jake has a daughter and since Peyton's only family is her dad who does not live at home because of his job, Peyton likes how needed she feels. Her mom died at such a young age and living alone in the house is hard for Peyton. She loves the idea of a family and I think that is the physical attraction she likes most about Jake. However, this was not enough for the relationship and they ended up breaking up. jake resembles Jody. Both men had something that attracted Janie and Peyton to them.

The right guy-
Peyton currently is married to Lucas, 7 seasons later. He is definitely the right guy for her. He has practically loved her since middle school when he was not popular and she always was. They had somewhat gotten together in the past but drama always got in the way. Finally they did. They understand each other and love each other. They bring out the best in each other and are truly right for each other. Lucas resembles Tea Cake, the men Janie and Peyton could be there selves around where they were happy and felt understood.

Just Go With It:
ReplyDeleteGood on paper: The woman, Veruca, Danny (Adam Sandler) almost marries in the beginning. Although she is pretty mean when her friends egg her on, she is the same religion. This makes her a very good looking person on paper, the marriage happens at a temple with no questions asked because they are both Jewish, the families will already be similar because of the common bond, and there is no issue of what religion the couple will follow.
Looks good: Palmer (Brooklyn Decker) looks very good and is a lot younger than Danny. Her looks is what draw him immediately but they seem to able to get close enough to be anything real. Then when they start rushing into a marriage on their first vacation together it becomes painfully clear that this idea is ill-advised. Danny can't keep himself from wanting her because of her great looks.
Right person: Jennifer Aniston ends up being the right girl for Adam Sandler. He has been his assistant for a long time and is loyal to him even when he lies to every girl he meets about married. Although when he tells her about Palmer and him she decides she will take a job offer in a different city. Adam Sandler can't imagine himself without her and finally realizes that the person he has been looking for is his assistant. They get married and both are able to move forward from troubled pasts.
